Tatar poet, translator, literary critic and public figure Gabdulla TUKAI was born 133 years ago in Kushlauch village of Kazan province (now the Republic of Tatarstan, Russia). When he was four, he lost his parents. At the age of nine he was adopted by his relatives from Uralsk (Kazakhstan). He composed his first poems when he was only 16. His poems were later translated into many languages. At the age of 19 he moved back to Kazan and started cooperating with local publishing houses. In 1912 his health began deteriorating and he passed away a year later. He was only 27.

Kazakh writer, one of the founding fathers of modern Kazakh literature, member of the Kazakh Academy of Science of SSR Sabit MUKANOV was born 119 years ago. Born in North Kazakhstan region, he attended teachers' courses in Omsk. In 1918-1919 he was Magzhan Zhumabayev's secretary. He worked for many newspapers, namely Yenbekshi kazak, Kenes auyly, Kazakh adebieti and more. In 1935-1937 he headed the Kazakhstan Writers Union. In 1937-1941 Sabit Mukanov was a professor of the Kazakh Pedagogic Institute (now the Abai Kazakh National Pedagogic University). In 1943-1951 he returned to his post in the Kazakhstan Writers Union. He wrote many outstanding literary pieces, contributed to regional newspapers and magazines, his plays were staged at theaters. He passed away in 1973.

President of the Abylai-khan International Fund Shota VALIKHANOV was born 87 years ago. Native of North Kazakhstan region, he is a graduate of the Moscow Architecture and Construction Institute. He took up his recent post in November 1996.

Chief of the Armed Forces General Staff of the Republic of Kazakhstan Mukhamedzhan TALASSOV was born 52 years ago in Kyzylorda region. He graduated from the Komarovsky Leningrad Higher Military College, the Kazakh State Law Academy and the Central Asian University. He has held his recent post since August 2017.

Deputy Chairman of the National Security Committee of the Republic of Kazakhstan Daulet YERGOZHIN was born 40 years ago. Born in Almaty, he is a graduate of the Kazakh State Academy of Management, the University of Economy and Law and Suffolk University. He was appointed to the post in November 2016.
